EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW : Albert Tsai on ‘Coop & Cami Ask the World’, Favorite part about the show, Upcoming Projects and his audition Process and More

We recently caught up with Albert Tsai – star of Disney Channel’s “Coop & Cami Ask The World” – and got a chance to talk all things about the new comedy series.

FA: Can you tell me about the show? Who do you play?
AT: “Coop & Cami Ask the World” is about a brother-sister duo that has a “Would You Wrather” Livestream channel where they make their decisions by crowdsourcing opinions from their fans. I play Fred, Cooper’s best friend. He hangs out with Coop & Cami a lot and helps with their Livestream channel.
FA: What was your audition like for the show?
AT: I did one audition for the role of Fred. Disney Channel’s auditioning process was different from those of my previous shows. It was a quite special and exciting experience for me, since I had watched Disney Channel when I was very little.
FA: Is it fun to be on a show that is geared more towards kids?
AT: It is fun being on a show that is geared more towards kids, as it has been pretty different from my previous experiences. There are a lot more crazy-stunts and special effects on the show, which makes filming very fun and interesting.
FA: How was your day one on the set?
AT: Day 1 on the set of Coop and Cami was actually a “Boot Camp” that Disney Channel does for the casts of every new show. We did some improv lessons, got to know each other a little more, and got to see the pilot episode for the first time. It was pretty cool!
FA: What similarities to do you have with your character on the show?
AT: My character Fred on Coop and Cami Ask the World is confident and doesn’t let other people’s opinions affect him, so in that way we are similar.
FA: What's your favorite thing about your role on Coop and Cami?
AT: My favorite thing about my role on Coop & Cami is that Fred is a fun character to play and every episode he has some new skill or idea that is something new for me to learn too.
FA: How did you get into acting?
AT: I did a school play when I was in second grade, where I played a funny doctor that really sparked my interest in acting. I started attending acting classes and eventually began to audition. Then, I auditioned for and booked my first major TV role of Bert on ABC’s family comedy Trophy Wife.
FA: What is the advice you’d give to kids who want to be an actor?
AT: My advice to kids who want to be an actor is to always believe in yourself, do what you love, and never give up. Be persistent and follow your passion.
FA: What are your goals for 2019?
AT: My goals for 2019 are to work more in feature films. I have an exciting project coming up and I can’t wait to share it!
FA: What are your upcoming projects?
AT: I have a new DreamWorks Animation movie called Abominable coming out September 27, 2019. Abominable is about three kids who find a magical yeti and go on a spectacular journey trying to bring him home. New episodes of Coop and Cami Ask the World Season 1 will also be coming out this year on Disney Channel.
FA: What's your message for JAMO readers?
AT: My message for JAMO readers is that I hope they all find their passion and go for it! I also hope they love my work and to go follow me on social media: @AlbertTsai on Instagram and Twitter, and @OfficialAlbertTsai on Facebook!
